overcast
24 x 30
oil on wood

My art practice is deeply influenced by my identity, sexuality, and my constant reflection of self.  The medium I primarily use is oil paint on acrylic-primed wood panels.  Using wood panels allows me to paint the fine details of my colourful portraits whilst still allowing the natural wood grain to peek through.  My work attempts to explore my sense of reality and my constantly changing perception of self.  I am currently interested in the relationship between the finished/unfinished techniques I see in many pieces by my favourite artists.

Overcast is a love letter to early hours and dreary weather that bring a sense of melancholy.  This painting is an exploration of styles and techniques that I have previously left unexplored.

Transit is a collage of different moments I captured while I was in Tokyo visiting my best friend.  Romantic and sexual longing has always been a subject of my paintings, but platonic yearning was something I decided to confront.

8:30 (desire) is a confession of what I desire most in the world; people and places that don't belong together.  A person that wants you to stay, and a place that wants you to go.

Dying my hair red was a pivotal moment of my life.  Redhead combines my childhood innocence to the chaos of my young adult years.

Diy (do it yourself) is a cynical attempt to confront the uneasy feeling that the climate crisis brings.  The impending disasters fill me with fear and helplessness.  In the darkest moments, I think it would be easier to 'do it yourself', rather than wait for the world to.
